Hot Water

Direct Cylinders
Direct cylinders have their own heat source and do not require an external heat source such as boilers, air source heat pumps etc. Instead an immersion heater within the cylinder is used to heat the water. Larger cylinders can be installed with more than one immersion heater to ensure hot water is readily available. Direct cylinders are available in both vented or unvented configuration.
Indirect Cylinders
Indirect cylinders rely on external sources to heat to the cylinder. The heat source can come from any number of appliances such as boilers, air source heat pumps and solar panels. The cylinder has an internal heat exchanger which transfers the heat from the appliance to the stored water. Immersion heaters can also be installed to add additional heat or as a backup in the event that the main heat source appliance fails. Indirect cylinders are available in both vented or unvented configuration.
Unvented Cylinders
Unvented cylinders use the mains water pressure to distribute hot water around the property, commonly used as part of a system boiler or air source heat pump installation. With a high pressure hot water supply you can enjoy a power shower without the need for noisy pumps. These cylinders do not require feeder tanks which make them ideal when space is tight. Unvented cylinders are available in both direct and indirect configurations.
Vented Cylinders
Vented hot water cylinders rely on a feeder tank to provide mains fed water as part of a gravity led system, and are commonly used with a regular boiler or air source heat pump installation. Vented cylinders are available in both direct and indirect configurations.
